Melson did another Osprey essay,
Marine Recon, 1940-90 which is pretty decent as well. Osprey also published a history of the Corps' recent years,
The US Marine Corps Since 1945, that covers major operations and also hits a bit on the administration/upper echelon maneuvers that shaped things.
As long as we're talking books, I'd highly recommend anyone interested in marine recon read
Aarugha! by Ray Stubbe, FMFRP 12-21, govdoc#D 214.9/6:12-21. (There's also a "civilian" version,
Inside Force Recon, by Stubbe and Michael Lanning. Personally, I prefer the former.)
